Trey Sermon signs deal with Nike before NFL draft

Trey Sermon had a record-breaking season for Ohio State.

Now just days before he’s selected in the NFL draft, the running back signed a multi-year endorsement deal with Nike, becoming the latest draft star to join the most powerful apparel company in sports.

The endorsement deal was announced by Sermon’s agency, Element Sports Group, on Wednesday afternoon.

After an impressive showing in both the Big Ten title game and Sugar Bowl semifinal win last season, Sermon is expected to be selected in the first few rounds of the 2021 NFL draft this weekend. The Oklahoma-turned-Ohio State ball carrier had flashes of brilliance during his college career. And he’ll have a chance to do that at the NFL level beginning this upcoming season, as well.

He’ll do so in fresh Nike gear. Trey Sermon is the latest athlete to sign an endorsement deal with Nike.

Jameson Williams enters transfer portal

Arguably the deepest, most talented unit in the country has taken a hit: Ohio State wide receiver Jameson Williams entered the transfer portal Wednesday afternoon.

The speedy, field-stretching deep threat had yet to earn a starting nod for the Buckeyes in his career despite his impressive physical gifts, though he proved as a sophomore that he could be a weapon in the passing game by hauling in a pair of touchdowns, including one in the Sugar Bowl semifinal win over Clemson.

Williams spent spring camp in a competition for a top role in the rotation at wideout, although the logjam of returning production combined with the influx of highly-touted underclassmen was potentially going to make it difficult for him to stand out for the Buckeyes.

Now he’s ready to take his chances elsewhere.

The Buckeyes certainly have the talent to make up for the loss of Williams. They’ve recruited at a higher clip than any other program in the country at wide receiver. But a loss is a loss. Jameson Williams has entered the transfer portal, and the deepest unit in the country took a hit in the process.
