Scarlet Sunrise: Ohio State working through first off week of Ryan Day era

Good morning, Ohio State fans, and welcome to the Scarlet Sunrise. Football will always be our focus, but every day we’ll cover news, notes and analysis from across Buckeyes sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Ohio State football, recruiting, basketball and more.

Ryan Day working through first off week as head coach

Ohio State has its first off week of the Ryan Day era this week, and the Buckeyes are getting healthy and enjoying the week off. They are also working to prepare for the upcoming two-week stretch before the next off week on Nov. 2.

So the week off comes at a good time. The Buckeyes have played six straight weeks, and they seemed pretty banged up after last week’s win over Michigan State. But it’s also a weird time for the off week because instead of waiting until next Saturday, they’ll play a rare Friday night game next week.

“This week is a little different because we’re coming back, playing on a Friday night,” Day said. “It’s a little bit different. We’ll come back to practice on Sunday, which is something you typically wouldn’t do coming off a bye week, but we will.

“So it’s a little bit different and we put it together based on what we thought was best for the team.”

It seems like everything on the schedule next week will be moved up a day to keep things normal before the game Friday, as the first off week of the Day era is underway.

Even though the Buckeyes are off, Lettermen Row still has a fresh practice report with Austin Ward and Spencer Holbrook. Watch it here.

Ohio State coaches meet with media

Ohio State coach Ryan Day, co-defensive coordinator Greg Mattison and offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson met with the media Tuesday to talk about the Buckeyes off week, the defensive turnaround, the offensive philosophy and much more.

Latest BuckIQ focuses on Jordan Fuller

Jordan Fuller has always made big plays throughout his Ohio State career. Now, he’s doing it as a senior captain. And he seems to be getting more comfortable in the new defensive system. Fuller has an interception in each of the last two games.

What has helped Jordan Fuller take his game to the next level? How important has his steady work at safety been during the rise of the Ohio State defense? Is there more Fuller can still give to the Buckeyes down the stretch?

Find out in the latest BuckIQ with Lettermen Row senior writer Austin Ward and former Ohio State safety Tyvis Powell.
