Luke Wypler could bolster Buckeyes depth right away
Luke Wypler is already on a similar trajectory at Ohio State.
The four-star offensive lineman has size, strength and versatility along the Buckeyes offensive line. He could play guard or center in his college career. And he’s already showing signs that he can add depth for the Buckeyes behind Harry Miller and Josh Myers right away in the trenches.
Wypler lost his black stripe earlier this week. He’s officially a member of the Ohio State football program. And now, he can get to work to solidify himself as part of the future of the Buckeyes offensive line moving forward.
“I think he’s got a chance to be a great interior lineman,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said in December when Wypler signed on National Signing Day. “You talk about somebody who really takes a lot of pride in the way he goes about his business, he’s going to come in here, going to be detailed, he’s going to work hard.”
Wypler is already working hard. Now an official member of the football program, he can add immediate depth for the national title contenders.
Who will lead Buckeyes in sacks?
Ohio State has been dominant on the defensive line for a long time. But now with Chase Young gone and a lot to replace up front, who will lead the Buckeyes in sacks this season? Lettermen Row senior writer Austin Ward has details and a prediction. Part of that is here:
So, who will wind up setting the pace for the Buckeyes? The bet here is on a slight underdog in Cooper, who should be in line to benefit from a steady helping of one-on-one matchups if opponents start gearing up their protection to slow down Harrison or Smith. Cooper has the potential to be an early-round NFL Draft pick as well, and he would already be there if not for the high-ankle sprain that wrecked what was supposed to be his breakout senior season a year ago. But if opponents are game-planning double teams for the Buckeyes, that effort is probably going to be focused on Harrison — at least until Cooper proves that to be a foolish strategy.
