Lejond Cavazos sheds black stripe, enters mix in secondary
Another member of the 2020 Ohio State recruiting class has lost his black stripe, and he could immediately enter the mix in the Buckeyes struggling secondary.
Lejond Cavazos was a four-star recruit at this time last year, ready to sign with the Buckeyes and compete for playing time. Now a year later, he’s a freshman who just got healthy after an injury during camp, and with the Buckeyes searching for answers, Cavazos could play a role in the secondary down the stretch for the Buckeyes.
The black stripe doesn’t signal that Cavazos will play; it simply means he has done enough on the practice field to be an official member of the football program. But if the secondary continues to give up big plays, some freshmen and other younger players may become an option for Kerry Coombs and the coaching staff. And Cavazos seems to be right in the mix.
Zach Boren breaks down Baron Browning’s rise
Baron Browning’s performance Saturday against Indiana brought mixed reviews from Browning himself.
He was part of the dominant Ohio State defensive front that allowed negative-one rushing yard and didn’t let the Hoosiers do anything on the ground. But he was also part of the pass defense that gave up nearly 500 yards passing to Michael Penix. But all in all, the performance just shows the diverse role Browning is asked to play in the Buckeyes defense. And he keeps getting better every week.
How is Baron Browning helping Ohio State most this season? What can the versatile linebacker keep doing as the Buckeyes look for some defensive improvements at Illinois? Where is Browning the most dangerous on the field? Former Ohio State linebacker Zach Boren put on the film and answered those questions in the latest episode of BuckIQ.
