Buckeyes make Kerry Coombs hire official
The worst-kept secret in college football is finally out. Kerry Coombs has reunited with Ohio State after a two-year stint with the Tennessee Titans.
Coombs, who previously coached under Urban Meyer at Ohio State for six seasons, will return to Columbus and become of the highest-paid assistants on the staff, and he’ll be in charge of overhauling a unit that lost three starters from a season ago. Coombs will have star safety Shaun Wade, who he recruited out of Florida to the Buckeyes, back for another season, and he has some other pieces to work with.
Coombs checked all of those boxes for the Buckeyes, and he comes with the benefit of previous experience at Ohio State and with a resumé-boosting stint at the next level. What else does the hiring of Kerry Coombs mean for the Buckeyes? Lettermen Row’s Austin Ward made sure to break it all down here.
Kerry Coombs brings recruiting prowess to Ohio State
What role Kerry Coombs plays on the recruiting trail is up in the air from here. But it seems likely that he’ll once again handle recruiting in Michigan, Southwest Ohio and Florida, where he excelled in the past. Former defensive backs coach Jeff Hafley, another coach brought to Ohio State from the NFL, was able to hand-pick his cornerbacks in the Class of 2020 and then go recruit them wherever they were, and there’s no reason to think Coombs won’t be granted the same liberties.
How does the hire of Kerry Coombs impact Cam Martinez and the pursuit to wrangle in the final piece of the 2020 recruiting class? Can Coombs return to his previous form and recruit some of the best defensive backs in the country? Can the Buckeyes expect to make even more impressive moves on the recruiting trail with Coombs in house? Lettermen Row recruiting expert Birm breaks it down here.

Terry McLaurin joins Birminology
Terry McLaurin could be a poster child for Ohio State football. Seemingly everyone loved McLaurin, a hard-working do-it-all wide receiver who was just as good on special teams as he was split out catching passes from J.T. Barrett and Dwayne Haskins. McLaurin was a leader, and it has translated to the NFL after just one season. He nearly had 1,000 yards receiving in his rookie campaign with Haskins and the Washington Redskins.
A fan favorite, a coach favorite and media favorite, McLaurin took time to talk about his time at Ohio State, his recruitment, his success in the NFL, the quarterbacks he played with while in Columbus and a whole lot more on the latest edition of Birminology on Lettermen Row.
