Tommy Eichenberg commits to Ohio State
Ohio State got some good news on the recruiting trail when Cleveland St. Ignatius 4-star linebacker Tommy Eichenberg announced his commitment on Thursday night.
The country’s 19th-ranked inside linebacker and Ohio’s eighth-ranked prospect, Eichenberg is a former Boston College verbal who had his recruiting star rise quickly in the last few months following offers from Ohio State and Michigan. He visited the Buckeyes for the home game on Nov. 24 against the Wolverines, days after re-opening his recruitment, and though he’s remained silent about the trip, it became clear that his lifelong dream of suiting for Ohio State wasn’t going to be passed up.
Jordan Battle waiting for Ryan Day before deciding on visit
The fight for Jordan Battle is certainly not over for Ohio State. Alabama is still involved, and Nick Saban visited Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday. But new Buckeyes coach Ryan Day is expected to visit Battle next week.
“Ryan Day is coming back to see Jordan,” Battle’s father Fred said. “I think next week.”
Players that have already made an official visit to Ohio State can take a second official visit to the school if they choose because of the head coaching change. It’s a smart, fair rule addition by the NCAA that helps players and their families get back to rebuilding a relationship with schools they had serious interest in. There has been discussion among the Battles about taking advantage of that, but until Day’s visit to Fort Lauderdale, there will be nothing planned.

Boren breaks down defense
Despite winning the Big Ten title and making the Rose Bowl, there’s almost no way to view Ohio State’s defense as having lived up to the program standard. And that’s going to make the transition as Day evaluates the staff and makes a plan moving forward really interesting come Jan. 2.
Before that, though, Ohio State has one more game with Urban Meyer. And former Buckeyes linebacker Zach Boren returned to the Lettermen Row film lab for his latest BuckIQ to break down what he saw from the defense last week against Northwestern and what it needs to shore up to beat Washington on New Year’s Day.
Dwayne Haskins’ best plays
Dwayne Haskins is headed to Saturday’s Heisman Trophy ceremony after a season in which he helped rewrite the Ohio State offensive record book.
To recap Haskins’ spectacular 2018 season, Lettermen Row took a look at some of his best games and plays from this season. Here’s out list of Haskins’ five best performances from the 2018 season.
- Early signing period: 12 days
- Rose Bowl: 25 days
