Will Ryan Day play freshmen?
The Friday question of the day was an interesting one — how much should we expect Ryan Day to play freshmen in 2019? Lettermen Row senior writer Austin Ward weighed in with his answer. Here’s part of what he had to say:
There’s really not a tremendous incentive for Ryan Day to change the approach with the program. If a true freshman is clearly better than what Ohio State already has on hand, there’s no question at all that he’ll get playing time. The Buckeyes aren’t going to redshirt just for the sake of doing it.
But the Buckeyes also have a bunch of guys who were just as touted as recruits who are now a year or two older, stronger and more familiar with the responsibilities required to win championships. If Ohio State is going to keep claiming them, it’s the veterans who will lead the way.
New episode of Lettermen Live
This week on Lettermen Live presented by Byers Auto, Zach Boren joins to discuss the likelihood of Ohio State having more noon kickoffs this season and NCAA video games. Additionally, Birm joined to update the recruitments of 5-star wide receiver Julian Fleming and 5-star offensive tackle Paris Johnson.
Ohio State softball wins NCAA opener
The Ohio State softball team began NCAA Tournament play on Friday with a 1-0 win against North Carolina. The Buckeyes were drawn into the Knoxville regional, which is hosted by No. 12 overall seed Tennessee. The Buckeyes will face the Volunteers at Noon ET on Saturday in the winner’s bracket of the double-elimination regional.
Ryan Armour misses cut at PGA Championship
Former Ohio State golfer Ryan Armour, who played for Ohio State in the 1990s and is in the midst of a career resurgence, missed the cut by one shot at the PGA Championship on Friday. Armour opened with a 4-over par 74 and followed it with a 1-over par 71 to narrowly miss playing the weekend.
