Season uncertainty now disrupting Buckeyes roster

Ohio State still has no answers from the Big Ten when it comes to a potential season schedule. Will the Buckeyes play again in October? Will the schedule begin in November? January? It’s still an unknown, and it’s impacting the Buckeyes in numerous ways.

The lack of communication and answers from the league has officially impacted the Ohio State roster: Wyatt Davis won’t play this season. He’s heading to the NFL after signing with an agent. Davis could have been a first-round pick if he left Ohio State after last season. But the All-American guard came back to the Buckeyes for one more shot at a national title and a chance to become just the third two-time consensus All-American offensive lineman in program history.

Now he leaves as one of the most talented offensive linemen to come through the program in recent memory. And he leaves before the season is even announced, as the commissioner and league presidents remain silent on when a schedule could potentially be played.

The Big Ten hasn’t handled the communication and planning that went into canceling the league season well. The league hasn’t addressed the players, parents and coaches with answers to numerous questions. The uncertainty has officially reached the Ohio State roster. And now, one of the Buckeyes best players is off to the NFL, electing to forego the college football season.

Bold predictions for Big Ten season

Ohio State wants an answer from the Big Ten. And the Buckeyes might just get one soon.

Multiple sources have indicated to Lettermen Row that the proposals from the conference’s return to competition task force are nearly complete, and two leading options have emerged for the presidents and chancellors to consider. There is an option on the table for next month, with Oct. 17 the targeted date for teams to kick off the season and potentially still compete in the College Football Playoff. And then there is another option, most likely with the opening game around Thanksgiving that would potentially be aligned with the Pac-12, the only other Power Five conference that cancelled its fall slate last month.

Clearly the Buckeyes have a preference.

What will the season look like whenever it’s played? The Lettermen Row staff Bold Predictions make their return ahead of the critical, looming decision from the Big Ten. Check those out from our staff here.

Ohio State commits still planning Buckeyes Bash

Ohio State commits have seen the recent meet-ups of commits from other colleges amid the ongoing recruiting dead period. And the Buckeyes commits are ready to have one of their own. Lettermen Row’s Jeremy Birmingham has the details:

So now, as the Buckeyes 2021 class is idling and schools like Oklahoma, Georgia, LSU and other schools that are preparing for the season craft mega-recruiting weekends with dozens of highly-ranked players, it’s time for Ohio State to make darn sure they do the same.

And they are trying, to be clear. Lettermen Row talked to a number of Buckeyes commits a few weeks ago — even before the “Sooner Summit” kickstarted this trend — and it was in the works. It still is.
