Poll watch: Buckeyes hold steady during off date
COLUMBUS — Ohio State had a week off, and it didn’t figure to move in the polls.
After a wild Saturday featuring upsets, Ohio State checks in at No. 4 in the latest Coaches Poll, the same spot the Buckeyes were in a week ago.
Alabama kept the top spot. Clemson, LSU, Ohio State and Oklahoma rounded out the top five of the Coaches Poll. Georgia fell out of the top five after its loss.
Ohio State has been able to stay in the top 10 throughout the season, and the Buckeyes have been steadily climbing each week. The key for Ohio State: just keep winning. And that’s what the Buckeyes are doing. They’re doing so by an average margin of 40.5 points per game.
“I feel like we just beat a top-25 team in a great atmosphere against a really well-coached team, a really good defense, a really good quarterback,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said after the win over Michigan State on Oct. 5. “We had to play 60 minutes of football. To hold them to 285 [yards] and to have 529, that’s a good day. The best part about that is we came off the field feeling like we can’t wait to get onto film and figure out where we can improve.”
With the week to watch the film and improve, Ohio State will be rested and ready when they travel to take on Northwestern in a rare Friday-night matchup.
