Poll watch: Buckeyes stay put after another road blowout win

COLUMBUS — Another week, another Ohio State blowout win.

On the road for the first time since their mid-October when they demolished Northwestern, the Buckeyes were at it again. The latest opponent was Rutgers, which was outmatched from the time the game kicked off. Ohio State built up a massive lead early and lackadaisically finished with a casual 56-21 conference win to move to 10-0.

With the latest blowout, the Buckeyes remained in the same spot as last week in the Amway Coaches Poll, which was released Sunday afternoon. LSU stayed atop the poll, while Ohio State, Clemson, Georgia and Alabama rounded out the top five.

Ohio State didn’t want to talk much about the win over Rutgers. Right now, it’s time for the Buckeyes to focus on the Big Ten East Divisio championship game on Saturday against Penn State.

“As soon as that game went to zero, is on Penn State and getting ready for that next run,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said. “We have to do everything we can to prepare for this game, and it starts right now. We talked very little about this game. We talked about preparation and what it means for this week. We’ll get home tonight, get some rest and get back in there tomorrow, have a meeting and get right to Penn State.”

That matchup against Penn State is going to be massive. The Buckeyes are finally going to face a team that is supposed to be able to match up with them, something that hasn’t happened yet this season.

Ohio State will close the season with the No. 9 ranked Nittany Lions, then head to No. 12 Michigan before a possible Big Ten title game.
