Poll watch: Buckeyes hold steady heading into Michigan Week

COLUMBUS — Ohio State finally received a test.

For the first time all season, the Buckeyes had to fight, scratch and claw through a four-quarter game that could have turned into a blowout if not for turnovers. But a win is a win in late November, and for their 28-17 win over a highly-ranked Penn State, the Buckeyes remained the No. 2 team in the country in the latest Amway Coaches Poll.

LSU retained the top spot after a win over Arkansas. Ohio State, Clemson, Georgia and Alabama rounded out the top five for the second consecutive week as each of them head into a game against their respective rival.

Although the Buckeyes didn’t continue their season-long streak of beating teams by at least 24 points — Penn State was the closest game all season — the win over the Nittany Lions helped Ohio State learn something important moving into The Game against Michigan in Ann Arbor.

“We have blown most people’s doors off for the season,” center Josh Myers said. “But I think we could have today. We shot ourselves in the foot, and it got us in a ball game that was tighter than it probably should have been. It is what it is. Truth be told, in the long run, it’s probably a good thing that it happened. Later on, it’ll be beneficial for us that we’ve been in that stressful situation before.”

Ohio State’s next opponent, Michigan, checked in at No. 11 in the Coaches Poll.
