College football rankings: Ohio State rises after wild weekend in top-10

COLUMBUS — There is finally some movement for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

After routing Indiana at home last weekend, Ohio State failed to see its place change in the Week 6 college football rankings.

Thanks to another conference win and some wild results throughout the Top 25, however, Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes now find themselves in a position they have not been since Week 2 of last season.

Ohio State moved into the No. 2 spot in this week’s Amway Coaches Poll after the Joe Burrow-led LSU Tigers crushed Georgia fans’ hearts with a 20-point win over the Bulldogs at home Saturday. The Buckeyes now hold this position in the rankings for the first time in over a year, before Oklahoma came to Columbus and left with a win and a bit of premature hate for Baker Mayfield from Ohioans.

Across the Big Ten, a couple massive matchups changed the current landscape of the college football rankings. Michigan handed Wisconsin its second loss of the season Saturday, which moved the Wolverines up to No. 7 and dropped the Badgers to No. 19. Michigan State’s upset of Penn State in Happy Valley moved the Nittany Lions out of the top 10 while Iowa moves into the top 25 to No. 22.

Additionally, the AP Poll reflected the same positive trend for Ohio State as the Buckeyes also found themselves at No. 2 after the weekend. The top-25 as a whole is packed with Big Ten teams, with six being present for the first time this season.

Similarly to the coaches poll, with Ohio State and Michigan benefitting from wins, Wisconsin and Penn State falling hard with losses and Michigan State and Iowa moving into the top-25.
