Tristan Leigh feels good with Ohio State, Greg Studrawa as attention grows

Ohio State football recruiting can be a wild ride full of twists and turns as recruits from all over the country maneuver their way to signing day. Lettermen Row is here to help navigate the tumultuous roads by getting to the heart of the matter with the young football players themselves. Birminology shows who the young men being recruited by Ohio State truly are — by talking to them. This week’s guest is 2021 prospect Tristan Leigh, an offensive lineman who has become a priority for Ohio State in recent months.

The Buckeyes are hoping to put together a truly special 2021 offensive line recruiting class and to do that, adding a commitment from Fairfax (Va.) Robinson Secondary School’s Tristan Leigh will be a necessary and challenging piece of the puzzle.

Necessary because the 6-foot-6, 280-pound Leigh is a really good offensive tackle prospect. Challenging because every single day the country’s No. 22-ranked offensive tackle seems to be adding new offers from top-tier programs from coast-to-coast.

The attention that Leigh is receiving isn’t likely to slow down anytime soon. He spent the first week of the new decade in San Antonio, working out and dominating at the All-American Bowl’s Underclassmen Combine. The footwork and athleticism that has made Virginia’s No. 4-ranked junior a top priority for Ohio State, Alabama, LSU and others has now earned him recent offers from Florida State, Texas A&M, Michigan State and more.

Ohio State didn’t need a big combine performance from Leigh to pay attention to him. The Buckeyes have been involved in his recruitment since late August and hosted him for a key unofficial visit in November. That trip set up Ryan Day’s program in a good position moving forward and helped solidify his opinion of Ohio State.

“We were very impressed with how much they care about their players’ futures,” Leigh said. “Whether that is developing you for the NFL or for giving you opportunities outside of football. I’m going to stay in touch with Coach Stud and try to visit again, probably in the spring.

“Ohio State is definitely up there for me. I can’t wait to be back.”

When will Tristan Leigh be back at Ohio State? How is his relationship with Buckeyes offensive line coach Greg Studrawa? How important are the bonds he’s building with Ohio State commitments Ben Christman and Donovan Jackson?
