Gabe Powers, Buckeyes commits have another strong week

Ohio State may not be playing football yet, but some of the Buckeyes top prized recruits are already in action. High school football is rolling at the end of September, and Lettermen Row is tracking the best performances from Ohio State commits and targets throughout the season.

Gabe Powers impressive season continues

Most of the attention goes to C.J. Hicks in the Ohio State 2022 class.

But fellow linebacker commitment Gabe Powers has all the tools to be one of the most talented players in the country this year, regardless of position. Powers has had a good start to his junior season at Marysville High School just up the road from Columbus.

He might have had his best performance Friday night in a big shutout win over Olentangy Berlin. Powers had a tackle for loss, an interception and two forced fumbles in the victory, marking his best defensive effort of the year. He was all over the field for the Monarchs, who improved to 4-1 on the season as they prepare for the playoffs in two weeks.

The Buckeyes are building a special 2022 class. Powers has been a headliner of that class for a while now. And he seems to just keep getting better each week.

Buckeyes offensive line commits dominate line of scrimmage

The future of the Ohio State offensive line appears to be in good hands. Both of the Buckeyes 2021 offensive line commits helped lead their teams to wins over the weekend. Ben Christman, a four-star guard from Revere High School in Richfield, led the way for his offense with seven knockdowns, according to 247sports.com. Christman and Revere beat Westlake High School 21-0 while the Ohio State commit dominated.

Down in Texas, Donovan Jackson and Episcopal beat Spring Legacy School of Sport Sciences 27-12, and Jackson looked like the five-star prospect he is on national recruiting sites.

Dasan McCullough releases highlights of first two games

One of three linebacker commits in the 2022 Ohio State recruiting class, Dasan McCullough has been impressive through two games of his junior season.

The borderline five-star prospect looks the part through a pair of games, and along with C.J. Hicks and the aforementioned Powers, the Ohio State 2022 linebacking group will be as impressive as any in the country — and the Buckeyes are still recruiting more linebackers to fill out the position.

McCullough certainly will only continue to get better. At 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds, he has a chance to be special.

Reid Carrico sees light load in big win

The Reid Carrico domination tour continues.

The four-star linebacker has been running through every team Ironton has faced in Southern Ohio this season. After losing in the state title game a season ago, Carrico and the Tigers are on a mission to get back to the championship game — and win it. Carrico is doing everything he can to make that happen.

In just one half of football Friday night, Carrico had nearly 200 yards on the ground and three touchdowns, and he dominated on defense once again. The Buckeyes commit continues to impress both with the ball in his hands and on the defensive side, where he’ll be in the future at Ohio State.

After another huge performance over the weekend, Carrico helped the Tigers stay undefeated. His mission isn’t to win regular season games, though. His goal is to win a state title.
