Answering biggest questions swirling around Buckeyes recruiting

COLUMBUS — There is no shortage of intrigue as recruiting begins to normalize for Ohio State.

There are big questions about the Buckeyes recruiting efforts, in fact. Those questions aren’t limited to the 2022 cycle, either. No, there are still pieces of the puzzle remaining in the Class of 2021 for Ohio State, major questions about the direction for 2022 and rising questions about 2023 now that offers have been going out left and right.

Not all of them have answers yet, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. The world of college football recruiting is wilder than ever, and right now the focus for the Ohio State coaching staff is just getting answers to the questions that they have.

Visits are once again on the horizon and clarity about exactly what that means is needed.

“You’re talking about a year and a half of people who haven’t been on campus — that’s really two classes that haven’t been here,” Ryan Day said on Monday. “They’re going to be coming over the walls. For the 2022 class, we’re going to be able to do some official visits here, which is great, get them back on campus. We’re going to wait to see what the university says about [COVID] testing and that stuff when they come on campus.

“There’s also some talk about possibly having … camps or even in-person evaluations when they get here. We’re waiting to find out and get some direction on what to do. Then at that point, we’ll kind of go from here, but it’s kind of like hurry up and wait and see what’s going to happen here.”

So while the Buckeyes wait and see, Lettermen Row is trying our best to answer some of the big questions in the meantime.

Recruiting analyst Jeremy Birmingham and co-host Spencer Holbrook dive into some of them in the latest edition of Talking Stuff, the Ohio State recruiting podcast. With readers wondering about J.T. Tuimoloau, the need for two running backs, a potential big-time transfer at linebacker and more, there was plenty of stuff to talk about.

Talking Stuff is presented by the fine folks at Byers Auto, the best place to buy a new or used car in Central Ohio.
