Kiyaunta Goodwin on massive physical changes, Buckeyes recruiting efforts

Ohio State football recruiting can be a wild ride full of twists and turns as recruits from all over the country maneuver their way to signing day. Lettermen Row is here to help navigate the tumultuous roads by getting to the heart of the matter with the young football players and Ohio State coaches and staff members themselves. Today’s guest is Kiyaunta Goodwin, a massive and fast-rising offensive tackle in the Class of 2022.

The internet has been buzzing in the last few weeks with a new meme. The “how it started, how it’s going” meme has been utilized by everyone around the globe as a way to show how the poster has grown, transformed or otherwised changed.

For Charlestown (Ind.) 2022 offensive tackle Kiyaunta Goodwin, the results are — to the say least — different than for most folks.

Goodwin, the country’s No. 23-ranked offensive tackle, has transformed himself from a 6-foot-8, 425-pound middle-of-the-road prospect into a 300-pound, muscled up priority for Ohio State, Alabama, and a number of the most prestigious football programs.

“I realized that I have been blessed with a gift and I wasn’t honoring what God gave me,” Goodwin told Lettermen Row when asked about his transformation. “I also want to use football to get my education and open up doors for me, so one day I can take care of my mother.

“I feel like a completely different person. I’m able to run and move so much better and bend a lot better. I never knew how much bad weight I was carrying until now. Also, I have been putting better foods into my body, so I have a lot more energy.”

And he’s been putting that energy to good use in his junior season of high school football. Now the question is how much he wants to expend when he, and the rest of his recruiting class, are able to return to in-person recruiting.

How does Kiyaunta Goodwin see his recruitment unfolding? What has he picked up from Zen Michalski, who he’s become friends with in the last few months? What does his relationship with Ryan Day and Greg Studrawa look like right now? Find out the answers to that and more in the latest edition of Birminology from Lettermen Row.
