Ohio State Recruiting Question of the Day
The wild twists and turns of the last month have left many of us gasping for air, wondering when the insanity will end. Generally speaking, though, recruits and their parents have taken a much more measured approach while waiting for investigation into Urban Meyer to be complete.
There have been few knee-jerk reactions, and despite one decommitment by Nashville 4-star linebacker Kane Patterson, things have gone pretty well for the Buckeyes on the recruiting trail while in the midst of the madness, all things considered.
There’s one giant elephant in the room, though, that has some people anxious — because no one has any idea which way it’s going to go. That is, of course, Zach Harrison, the 5-star defensive end from Olentangy (Ohio) Orange High School, 15 minutes away from Ohio State, and the top player on the 2019 recruiting board for the last two years.
It’s the one remaining huge unknown about this investigation now that Meyer’s fate has been settled on. He’ll return to Ohio State after a three-game suspension, but what exactly has the turmoil around the Buckeyes done to their pursuit of Harrison? That’s today’s Recruiting Question of the Day.
Let me be very clear as I try and answer this: No one knows at this point about what Zach Harrison feels and thinks outside of him and the people who live in his house.
I know that’s not the answer people want, but that’s where we are. In no particular order, it’s Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan fighting for Harrison’s commitment. Yes, he’s been close to Meyer, so it’s natural to assume that any kind of dent to the reputation of the coach will require some repair. But I would caution against assuming anything when it comes to Harrison’s recruitment.
No matter how much anybody wants to believe it, we are not entitled to know everything that that kids or their families think or feel or want. We, the media, are in this business for the kids and their families and if they want to share their stories, I’m more than happy to tell it. If they don’t or if they choose to keep things close to the vest and private, that’s their right to do so. We all just need to sit back and wait for a decision to be made by the Harrisons.
Reporting anything else right now isn’t relevant. Whenever Zach Harrison is ready to announce his college choice, he will. Until then, we’ll appreciate his talents and respect his privacy as he looks to make the biggest decision of his young life.
